Was It the Cooking?
Let’s be sincere with each other, cooking is great and a way to make someone, feel confidence and happy within oneself – but that is only if you can cook great dishes. Yeah, it is true that not everyone can prepare even a simple dessert and have it deliciously cooked. Actually, very many people don’t know how to cook (all pun intended). That might be the reason why there are many institutions offering catering courses. Also several TV shows concerning food and cooking have cropped up of late. All these gear towards helping the lot of you out there who can’t prepare a simple cheeseburger.
Anyway, enough of my naughty tirades. I wanted to share with you a story of how I met with the love of my life. I know that some of you might feel jealous, but do I care. The story might not be great, but I know that I can inspire a soul or two.
The lovely gal
The beautiful and amazing wife who I’m married to today and we have two beautiful children with was a young and beautiful girl that I met at a cooking competition. To say that she fell for me because of my culinary ability would be an insult because I love and treasure her so much. And apart from my cooking abilities, we share so much together that we are inseparable.
It all happened during a cooking competition which was organized by a local company in our municipality as part of their social corporate responsibility. The company manufactures cooking oil and other cooking spices.
When the competition was organized, I applied and prior to the day, I spent much time researching on what I would cook. It wasn’t an easy choice given that I was good at various dishes. This made it hard for me to settle on one and I had to ask advice from my family member and it was my elder sister who suggested that I prepare some steak marinade and apple pie for dessert.
This was one dish that she always loved to see me prepare and I decided to do that during the competition. I then forwarded the list of the ingredients that I would need to the company organizing the event and patiently, though anxious waited for the day.
When the day for the competition finally arrived, I was up early and all set. It was fun preparing the food amid an audience and alongside others who had applied for the contest. At first I was nervous but soon all was well with me. I went ahead to prepare what I believed was the best. I enjoyed the cooking very much.
Long story short, it came time for the judges to award us point for the foods that we had prepared. There was also a group of ‘taster’ who were working together with the judges and there was my ‘would-be’ wife.
To say that my cooking and food was impeccable is an understatement. To date I don’t know how I failed to bag the best chef’s award and came second. But the moment this girl tasted my delicacy she fell for me. I can attest to that because she gave me a clean 10 points (which was the maximum points for excellent rating) and after the event, she was there to congratulate me for ‘becoming second’. The rest is another story for another day. Yes, a story about how she prepares better food than I do.
